The Devillies are a fun group of musicians playing tunes and songs to make you dance, laugh, and cry.

The Devillies are a spirited Irish-American folk ensemble hailing from Bellingham, Washington, who have been enchanting audiences with their eclectic Celtic sound since their formation in 2019. This tight-knit quintet features the talents of Margaret Driscoll's soaring fiddle, Steven Rystrom's masterful mandolin and banjo playing, Angus McLane's steady bass beats, Brian Anderson's rhythmic bodhrán and percussion, and Marcel Helland's nimble work on the tin whistle. Known for their infectious energy and genuine passion for Irish and American music, The Devillies have become beloved fixtures in the Pacific Northwest folk scene, bringing the timeless melodies and stirring ballads of the Emerald Isle to life while adding their own distinctive Pacific Northwest flair.

Steven Rystrom

Steven Rystrom grew up with music in Bellingham, WA through piano lessons, school band, and musical theater and studied music at Pacific Lutheran University on a trumpet scholarship, graduating in 2012. He has since learned to play the mandolin, guitar, penny whistle, Irish bodhrán, tenor mandola, Irish tenor banjo, and Irish bouzouki. Steven lives in Bellingham and plays music at local sessions and with the Irish-American folk band, The Devillies.

Margaret Inez Driscoll

Margaret began playing fiddle at age 9 in her hometown of Phoenix, AZ. She fell in love with Scottish, Cape Breton, and Irish music, learning to play at the local sessions. After moving to the PNW in 2006, she joined the Celtic Arts Foundation and continued to study folk music. Margaret won the Northwest Regional Scottish Fiddle Championships in 2008 and 2009. She delights in teaching fiddle to young and old alike and enjoys playing tunes with The Devillies.

Angus McLane

Angus McLane has been playing bass for about 15 years, since his two little ones went off to college. He’s been playing Irish music as part of the Devillies or the earlier Devilly Brothers for about 12 years. He especially loves the combination of ballads and songs with the fiddle tunes. Angus started in blue grass and folk music and has played with tango and gypsy jazz bands as well. He also plays with two other bands: Heron and Crow, and Red Sky Riders. Angus has lived in the Pacific NW for his whole adult life, a survivor of a 1950’s traditional New England family.

Brian Anderson

Brian Anderson is a percussionist hailing from Bellingham, Washington in the Pacific Northwest Region of the United States. Anderson began his musical study playing wind instruments in school then quickly expanded into the world of drums and percussion. Through the last 25 years he has performed in bands and ensembles ranging in genres from jazz to punk rock, cabaret to Celtic. Anderson is very connected to his ancestral lines back to Ireland and Scotland. Through that connection he found his passion for playing Celtic music, the bodhran and session culture.
